Böle Tannery

Tannery

Böle is a tannery, meaning that we make our own leather.

Böle Tannery is probably the last standing spruce bark tannery in the world. And probably one of the oldest continuously operating tanneries as well. We use the same process as we used when we started over a hundred years ago. The water in our tanning vats has actually not been changed since 1918.

The main reason for us to continue with spruce bark tanning is obviously the uniquely beautiful and durable leather that comes out. But of course there are some more practical reasons as well. The tannery is perfectly situated along Pite river and its clean water. And we have access to spruce bark in the woods growing all around us.
